Do I Drink Too Much?
Marques de Casa Concha Cabernet Sauvignon D.O. Puente Alto '04 $15; superb! Balanced, dignified, not fruit-forward, some terroir, some saddle-leather, tannins fold right into the body in the (Non-International) Chilean style. Great with food. ***
Juan Benegas Malbec '04; medium-light bodied (especially for a Malbec.) Balanced, refined flavor, a real food wine. Again small, but enjoyable. M liked it even more than me; I missed the Malbec-blueberry thing. Consulted by M. Rolland, to which I would ascribe the Bordeaux-like profile. W*, M**. $11, on sale for 9.
Alto Almanzora Este '04; an Eric Solomon blend I think, there's no D.O. Beautiful at $9; soft fruit at the front; medium-full bodied, just yummy. By the end of the bottle real structure appears. Great with snacks or food, or on its own. **. Reminds me of the Sardon de Duero. I'll bet the grapes are from the Duero. And a bargain.
1919 Shiraz '04. Full-bodied, fruity but not overbearing. Holds up nicely through the whole bottle. Great with grilled meat. *.
